A Samsung T220 review would be incomplete without saying that this monitor is beautiful and extremely easy to install. The stand was very easy to fit and then I plugged it in and installed the driver and the other software. At first I couldn’t set the resolution to full (1680 x 1050) in Control Panel, but I changed the resolution on my Nvidia software and then the screen looked fantastic. By the way, 3 pin and 2 pin power cables were supplied together with VGA and DVI cables.

In the box...exciting

The contents of the box...

As many of the other reviews have mentioned, this screen looks beautiful. I was really after a black screen, but I’m pleased I made this choice as the surround looks black with just a hint of red in darker conditions and slightly more red in a lighter ambience, which I’ve grown to really like.

The 2 parts of the easily assembled stand

I bought this monitor mainly for work and using the internet. I have not been disappointed! I had several concerns before buying a 22″ monitor (upgraded from a Philips 18″) as I wondered what the internet would be like using it. No problem, as most web pages are centred and not full width, although some pages look too wide. This is easily dealt with by utilising Samsung’s intelligent Multiscreen software which snaps windows to different areas of the screen, so for example you could have 2 browser windows open side by side. Another concern I had was whether the text would be clear and it is very clear and renders well at any size. I also use the monitor for viewing photos captured with my digital camera and the images look clear, crisp and vibrant. Also, the viewing angle is good, and the screen remains fairly clear at various angles from side to side. When moving up or down, there is a change in colours, but I assume this is the case with most LCD monitors.

The plastic back cover which comes off and snaps back on to cover cables

I downloaded the latest Magic Tune Premium software which works well, although I have had one incidence of the software saying that it is incompatible with my machine. I just rebooted and it works fine now. I have only made minor adjustments using the software and I have reduced the brightness to 34 and the contrast to 50, which is comfortable for me to use. I did use the calibration tool and made some slight adjustments.

Magictune software

The screen has a matte finish and so glare is not a problem. There is glare from the beautiful rose black surround, but this is a minor issue that I don’t notice anyway. The monitor comes with a cleaning cloth which you will need if you’re in a dusty room such as mine. I need to clean the surround about once every 3 days, which I am starting to enjoy:)

Samsung T220 monitor

I can’t really comment on the games performance of the monitor although it should perform extremely well according to the spec of a 2ms response time. I have played chess and had no problem! Seriously, the only real graphics intensive game that I have used it for is Microsoft Flight Simulator X, which works a treat. The graphics look vivid and sharp and there appears to be no blur. Perhaps others could comment about the quality of using this monitor with fast games.

As for the backlight bleed issue, yes it does exist, although I’ve got nothing to compare it against so I’m unsure if it’s that bad. It doesn’t bother me and the other monitors that I researched in this price range such as the Samsung SM226BW all appear to have the same problem.

All in all I award this monitor 8 out of 10 and I’m very happy with it. Keep your fingers off my screen!

I hope you have enjoyed my Samsung T220 monitor review.

I thought I’d share the methods I use to determine rank in Google for a keyword or a set of keywords. The most reliable method is of course to go through Google itself and see exactly where your website ranks. But what if you don’t know roughly where your website is ranked? One method is www.googlerankings.com which determines your rank in Google, Yahoo!, MSN and Ask. The downside to this method is that you need a Google API key. Another method I’ve used is SEO Elite (a review of this software to be posted soon!). This allows you the advantage of inputting as many keywords as you like and having them checked on Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Alltheweb and Altavista. There is also Digital Point’s Keyword Ranking Tool which is free and allows rank checking of your website on Google, Yahoo! and MSN, whilst also allowing you to input multiple keywords.

In my experience it is particularly difficult to predict or estimate searches per day for a keyword phrase. One method I’ve used is using by way of a Wordtracker paid account, although the estimates are presumably wildly inaccurate, but give an idea for many keywords. As an alternative why not try Google Adwords Traffic Estimator to predict the amount of traffic?

For example I entered ‘internet marketing blog’ as the keyword and selected all countries and territories. The result came back with 16 clicks per day. To estimate the number of impressions and therefore searches per day, I assumed that the click through rate (CTR) that Google uses is 5% (i.e. only 5% of searchers click on an ad). If 16 clicks = 5% then 100% requires multiplying by 20. So 16 x 20 = 320 searches per day. You could then go on to predict the traffic from Yahoo! and MSN by taking a percentage of the Google searches. For example you might say that Google has a share of 70% of searches, so Yahoo! and MSN might have 25% of searches and so 320 x 25% = 80 searches. So a rough prediction of traffic from Google, Yahoo! and MSN would be 320 + 80 searches = 400 searches for ‘internet marketing blog’, presumably also a highly inaccurate figure!

Google has just rolled out another addition to its functionality by adding a search box in its search results. Try this search for Microsoft and you will see what I mean. The box allows you to type in a query which results in searching the Microsoft site. Pretty cool or not? It looks a bit ugly to me in the search results, but is a useful addition although gives more screen real estate to the top search result.
